Course plan for a B.A Degree Visual ArtsCourse plan for a B.A Degree Visual Arts

The visual arts programme at the Department of Art and Design focuses mainly on practical training and developing experienced creators in the principal fields of the visual arts, termed “concentrations", as follows:

1. Drawing and painting concentration: the students are first taught basic skills in drawing and painting based on classical academic rules, and then guided towards free and contemporary artistic creativity.

2. Sculpture concentration: the basic skills and rules associated with sculptural construction and formations are studied within the foundational academic rules, and then the subsequent stylistic extensions related to modernist and postmodern formation and configurations.

3. Ceramic concentration: students learn the skills of forming, moulding, and basic ceramic formation.

4. Multimedia design concentration: students study the basic design skills through the use of multimedia, and are exposed to contemporary multimedia methods in the form of graphic and mobile design applications that harness the latest developments in computers media.

5. Interior design concentration: students learn the basic skills and rules related to interior design, such as ways to build interior configurations and spaces, as well as the relative engineering rules. Moreover, they acquire the key skills of creative thinking and develop in-depth knowledge about the materials and accessories needed to produce effective interior design projects. This is taken into account when placing all of the concentrations within one comprehensive framework under the heading of visual arts (as a general specialisation). Students are also briefed in the supporting theoretical aspects, such as the aesthetic and creative culture necessary to produce integrated creations in the mentioned fields in which technical and theoretical knowledge is integrated. The focus is on broadening horizons and enhancing knowledge and creative thinking.

Vision: The department aspires to contribute to emphasising the importance of the role of art and design in society. It also seeks to crystallise a new perception of art in our society that does not view art as separate from the individual's social, economic, cultural, and other needs. It aims to stimulate creativity and scientific innovation and imagination by producing a complete and quality contemporary visual arts programme.

Mission: The Department of Visual Arts has been shown to prepare talented students for artistic careers by emphasising learning in a positive university environment, thus confirming the role of the department in the field of art and design education in Jordan. Focusing on innovation in all aspects, the department provides advanced technical education thanks to its skilled faculty and staff, its scientific and technical resources, and its specialised workshops in various areas of the arts. In its curricula and materials, the department combines advanced skills, artistic self-expression, in-depth thinking, and appropriate concept development. The department seeks to raise the status of the fine arts and establish itself in the creative, productive, and developmental arena.
