The "Agence Universitaire De La Francophonie" Funds an International Research Project in the Music Department

Engr. Fadi Al-Ghawanmeh, the faculty member  in The University of Jordan Music Department won a research fund from the Middle East office of the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) for his inter-university scientific cooperation project entitled:
 
"TRAM: Translating Arab Music"
 
In his project, Engr. Al-Ghawanmeh, is collaborating with research groups from the Lorraine Research Laboratory in Computer Science and its Applications (LORIA) of the University of Lorraine ( France), and the App
lied mathematics department of the Lebanese University (Lebanon). The project  investigates the possibility of using machine translation methods and techniques to propose an automatic musical accompaniment to the Arab vocal improvisation, "Mawwal".
It is worthy of mention that TRAM is one of only four projects funded in this call.
 
This accomplishment participates in boosting the efforts of the University of Jordan – via the Faculty of Arts and Design and the Music Department –   to improve the methods and techniques utilized in the music research, mainly by introducing new technologies.
