Sukkarieh Performs in China, conducts China Philharmonic Orchestra

The Vice Dean of the School of Arts and Design at the University of Jordan (UJ), Dr. Haitham Sukkarieh participated in the cultural week of the countries of Asia and the Middle East in China, presenting a Symphony concert and most significantly conducting the Philharmonic Orchestra of Shanghai, as the first Arabian conductor.

Sukkarieh presented the Petra Symphony and the orchestral song 'Amman' performed by UJ's postgraduate student Violatta Al Yousef.

Commenting on his participation, Sukkarieh said he and his student Violatta was honored and delighted to represent Jordan at the international event.

He stated that he received an invitation to participate in the event from the Chinese embassy in Amman, adding that his participation included giving a workshop for the students of the Department of Composition at the Zhejiang Conservatory of Music, entitled (The Oriental Modes in Orchestral works) As his student Violetta presented another workshop for students of the Department of Pop Music, she sang different languages and end with a Chinese song.

Dr. Sukkarieh concluded an agreement of academic cooperation and cultural exchange with the Zhejiang Conservatory of Music, and got four scholarships for students of music department at (UJ) in BA and MA.
